MUSIC BONES is a band that I co-founded with my (now) husband Mike Sutjipto back in 2013.

We met on Craigslist (in the musicians section) and started writing songs together - later that year we fell in love, and I picked up the drums.

From 2018-2022 we performed under the name “Makeda!” and in 2018 we released our debut EP “I’ll Say It How I Want To”

As an Indie Band that prioritizes our creative sovereignty; we teamed up with some incredible Artists and poured our hearts, Souls, and resources into making something of our own.

“If He Gets to be President” was our debut single and set out to position a culture of white supremacy and patriarchy as an invitation to self-select - to defer to ourselves as our own authorities.

For me, power isn’t defined by external factors like what you have or who you’re validated by — I believe that true power is the essence of who we are. “Free Soul” is a song about coming home to that truth.

The other two songs on the EP are “Peach Jam” a song about being exasperated with life and it’s lessons and it’s lemons and “Do it Anyways” a song about navigating fear by feeling it.

Since releasing the EP - we’ve taken a step back and done a lot of dreaming not just about what we want to make, but how we want to make it. It’s our intention to meet the times that we live in with what we have; our art, and our own sense of alignment.

In 2020 we got married in the SoCal mountains that we called home for almost three years. In 2022 we moved to The Bay area where we continue to make life, and music, together.

The last few years have given us a chance to focus on our own healing and to build a strong foundation for the magic we make together. We also adopted our husky Zella.

In 2022, we returned to our Music Bones roots - reclaiming the heart of where we started. For us, making music has always been about having fun and meeting ourselves. It’s something that we lost sight of for a little while but lucky for us, detours (even meaningful ones) always present you with the opportunity to return back to where you started, with more than what you started with.
