Earth Lessons

I think the truth is that deep down most humans want to be in integrity with the Earth. I think in our heart of our hearts we want to be in alignment. We don’t want to be extractive and disconnected from life. I think we’re exhausted and overwhelmed. It makes sense that we would numb or turn away.

We have inherited centuries of misbehavior and mistreatment. Centuries of extraction and misalignment and trauma.

Where do we even start?

Here’s the thing - we don’t need to do this by ourselves. The Earth will teach us and guide us and support us and heal with us. The Earth is our partner in the transformations that are already underway.

For me art has been an instrumental tool of remembering. And it makes sense that it would be - when I step into creating, I step into a portal where I can not only know the Earth but do as the Earth does; birth beauty.

So much of what we’ve been taught about art is a distortion meant to keep us from ourselves. Meant to keep us from the healing that is available when we connect to our voices and our fingers and the wild movements that our bodies make when we let them freely move. The healing that is available when we sit with our feelings and our shadows and let them share the medicine that they hold.

Art is a vehicle for alchemy.

We are taught that Artistry is for the select few - and that’s not an accident. But the truth is that to be human is to be an Artist.

We are always creating.

With our choices and our love and in the specificity of our unique expression - we are the Art of the Earth.
