The Soul of America

The Soul of America can be found in communion with the land that they named America.

In so many ways we are taught to ignore that and instead to identify with the wound and the adaptations taken to survive the wound.

There is love and humanity and great courage and great might too, but those are in spite of not because of.

Soul is not something that can be held and captured, it just is.

And if we get honest the Soul of this land is being held captive by the trauma it has witnessed and endured.

If we get honest what we are being asked to heal is inconvenient to the stories that we’ve told ourselves to try and make it all seem somehow worth it.

It never had to be this way - and it does not have to continue in this way either.

We can be the ones to heal this trauma - but in order to do so we must be honest about what exactly has been done so that we could be here.

We are only here

Because this country massacred and marginalized

The people who were here first

And then again

The people who were forced to be here

This truth is minimized int he retelling

Because to acknowledge it would require admitting

That this American Dream

Is very much an American Nightmare

For it is the story of unhealed trauma
